Fighting Boredom

namaste _/|\_

Saturday was Pure Cardio again.  Whew!  That one is always brutal!  Its never reassuring when Shaun T himself is telling me how nervous HE is about the workout to come during warm-ups.  Everytime it gets tough, Shaun yells at one of his fellow excercisers whose name happens tp be Rachel.  My hands rest on my knees, "Push Rachel!"  How does he know?!?!

Sunday was Plyometric Cardio Circuit.  I got a little bored during this one last night.  Or maybe a lot bored.

Of course, I've done all of the month one workouts already.  At this point its just a matter of repeating and pushing harder.  And I can say for sure that I am able to go for longer periods of time and push harder during the times that I am going already.  The "warm-up" is gradually starting to feel a little more like a warm-up instead of phase one of the actual workout!

I discovered that Fios On Demand has a whole fitness section WITH an entire Jillian Michaels folder.  Jackpot.  Thats like 15-20 Jillian videos.  Boom!  I can use it to supplement, or as replacement to avoid the boredom.  Beautiful.  Plus, she has straight ab workouts.  Insanity concentrates on the abs by maintaining a tight core at all times throughout the program, and some plank moves some days; works it definitely.  But I enjoy target ab work as well.

Mindful eating going well.  See separate blog.

Tonight is cardio recovery I believe.  Not as intense.  I'm a fan.

Goal for any free time today: find lower impact excercises today so I can gain a partner in crime :o)

Day 7...I have a headache

namaste _/|\_

I don't believe the headache is related at all to Insanity, its just whats in the forefront of my mind right now.  Or, to be more accurate, front, rear and right side...

Cardio power & resistance last night...

I've done this one before. Remember last time, it was either the same excercises over and over or I had done that DVD before...yeah I had done that DVD before. Apparently they are all running together lol. They seem to be getting a little easier, I'm able to push a little harder, not having to stop as much. And I swear my calves a little bigger and more defined. Bigger calves was not the goal. Its really too early to be seeing any physical changes, so it may just be in my head lol.
Mostly just trying to get in, and stay in a groove. Not in the negative "rut" sense, but I've found that following a schedule, being disciplined daily, is much easier than a starting/stopping/sometimes kinda deal. Its hard to start back up after 2 days off!
Pure cardio tonight. Yea. I try to remember how amazing it feels after I'm done. Not in the, when you stop beating yourself w/ a hammer it feels good too, kinda way. Its an adrenalin, accomplishment, endorphins, natural high.  For real.

Come onnnn time when I'm done....

COUPLE DAYS...bad about posting

namaste _/|\_

Its been a few.  I have been bad about writing this thing that no one reads lol.  Thats okay though.  It takes some getting used to.  I also took a few days off from the Insanity workout.  I got scolded by B for "pushing too hard", or so she says.  I will admit to being totally wiped out.  The program is meant to be done daily, but she says I need to slow down and work my way up.  She's probably right damnit.  If you're anyhting like me, you do things balls to the wall, or not at all.  I don't "slow down" I stop.  I don't "ease in" I run through the brick wall.  Its the way I'm wired.  Life for me is becoming more and more about balance; in everything around me.

Back to the actual workout:

Pure cardio...and it was.  No water breaks, no 30 seconds catch your breath.  Nope.  warm-up, 30 sec break, straight through all the way to cool down.  And this is not "joggin in place" its still jumping, suicides, etc i-cant-even-remember-it-all.  Now, obviously after less than a week I am in no physical condition to be able to go straight through.  Hell, most of his background excerciser people couldnt go all the way through.  And he stresses very heavily not to break form for the sake of finishing the excerise.

Last night was plyometric cardio circuits.  Im not sure what the difference is with the names of the workouts and the drills in them.  The more I do the more it seems to be the same drills group differently run in different orders.  That or I've already done that one.  Which is also a possibility.  Like I said, they begin to run together lol.

It is making me miss my playing days; may have to find some adult rec basketball and softball leagues.  Im beginning to feel a difference physically, a little more energy daily.  Five smaller meals still makes me feel like I'm eating ALL the time; but apparently thats correct.  B and I are going to get a couple bikes from my parentals and start trekking the trail by the house as soon as she gets to feeling better (she's been under the weather for a few now).  We have also really taking liking to golf, and Mama has an old set she's going to let us borrow.  The main goal being just to be more active.

Until next time...

DAY 5...listening to your body.

namaste _/\_

Yesterday was rough. Physically. Woke up extremely exhausted. Its amazing how you can go to bed at the same time every night, wake up at the same time every morning, and some days are good, some are drag ass! Yesterday I was dragging ass! I could not wake up for anything! Like, falling asleep at my desk, had to make bad coffee at work tired. And my whole body just felt really heavy. You know the feeling of heaviness after you have been sick for a few days or when you are about to be sick? That was yesterday.

So, maybe for the first time in my life, I listened to my body. I knew it wouldn't be a solid workout anyway, so I took a day off. It was so hard. I have a tendency to feel guilt for those kinds of things. B seems to think I've gone too hard into all of this and my body said "nope. not today."

Not surprisingly, I feel much better today.

Ready to get it tonight.

DAY 4...has anyone seen my legs???

namaste _/\_

"Cardio Recovery." Not exactly a false statement. There was no cardio involved. Just quads, quads, and a little bit of shoulders. Lets squat for a minute, then pulse for 30 seconds. This guy really is crazy. Lunge for a minute, pulse for 30 seconds. Leg lifts in the plank position. Plus more. Aye! Core tight allows all exercises to be ab work, which I try to remember. Lots of yoga and pilates, which is deceptively difficult I promise.

By the time I was done, I was cursing my decision to move into a two story house. And looking for a stool to sit on while I brushed my teeth and washed my face. By legs were shaking so bad I thought I may fall over at any point. Felt so good to lay in bed, though they were still shaking!

I'm not as sore as I would have hoped. Which makes me feel like I'm not working hard enough.

Threw away those damn jellybeans. I took them to work w/ me hoping my co-workers would finish them off. Yeah, not so much. I just ended up eating them! So on the way out, trash. My dinner meat decision wasn't as lean as I would have liked. And simple observation proved that our beloved pilaf rice has 310 calories a serving (1 cup). Ugh, that's the amount we are trying to eat per meal (5 small meals a day). So, definitely less than a serving when we eat that, and will have to search for a substitute.

Speaking of substitutes, we are looking for some exercises to replace some of the ones Brooke cant do on the Insanity video. With her back problems, some of them just aren't possible. So we're gonna find some other stuff; there are lots of possibilities.

I'm finding I have less and less time during the days. I leave for work at 7am, and get home close to 7pm. Bedtime is at 10, because I get up at 5am and I don't think I can get up any earlier!! I would love to be able to do it in the morning. After cooking/eating dinner its 8-830 ish. I'm just feeling slightly rushed in the evenings. I hope it turns out to be worth it!

Today is "pure cardio." What I've read about it scares me. Supposedly 30-40 minutes of non-stop cardio. No breaks. Hopefully I'll be to tired to function.

DAY 3...mental battle

namaste _/\_

Sore. Not unbearable sore. Not as sore as I anticipated. Sore, I would come to find out, in the same muscles I would be using today during the 'cardio power & resistance." For example, the outside of my calves. Killer. On EVERY jump today.

Today was all mental. It was the first full work day, come home, cook dinner, still have to freaking do that freaking video, day. But still committed strong, not too much of a battle to push play.

The tough part was during the workout. Hard physically, sure: walking push-ups, plank sprints, power squats, globe jumps, hurdles, v-pushups, etc, burning, sweating, panting blah. But mentally BRUTAL. I wanted to quit at 18mins left bc: 1)it shouldnt be as hard as it was, 2)I used to be able to do this crap 10 fold, 3)why cant I do all the reps, ad infinitum...

For those of you who didnt know me way back when, I was a 2 sport college athlete, often attending multiple practices a day, on top of my own workouts ( I also had a TOUCH of an unhealthy obsession...or more than a touch). I'm finding it difficult to MENTALLY adjust to not being in shape like I was. Why cant I do it like I used to??? Maybe bc you decided to start smoking, for one, dumb ass!

I have a hard time giving myself a break, and i doubt I'm alone in that regard. Surely wouldnt expect anyone else to jump back in a be right where they left off. I would tell them to do as much as they can, and build on it every day.

I also have a bit of perfectionism left in me. If I can't do it, and be the best the first time or very quickly after-then "I dont wanna." Let mepractice by myself for awhile. Guess what? I'm in my living room!! No one can see me!! Geez!

Two things for me to work on, neither of which have anything to do w/ the actual "Insanity" video. Never know where you will learn your lessons.

And I did make it all the way through. I dont quit things very well.

Food for the day: much better. Work helps w/ that! Not as many jellybeans either. All that crap doesnt help mentally or physically.

Bedtime.

DAY 2...How insane can it be really???

namaste _/\_

So I said yesterday I didnt anticipate being sore today...and I wasnt. Much. (My wrist hurt, but thats a golf injury sustained yesterday not insanity). I had minimal stiffness, but nothing bad.

First, the lawn had to be mowed. No choice. So I spent over an hr atleast pushing a damn lawnmower, weed eating, seeding, pulling weeds. Little weak-legged for sure. Perfect excuse to skip a day. But I made a comittment to myself. And, just for today, I'm sticking with it. 2 mos til June....

On to the DVD: "plyometric cardio circuit." play.

Let me just start by saying, the warm-up is hard. He wants to speed it up every freaking time and I'm still trying to catch up! The real workout kicks in, and kick it did. What I remember most is the burning of my quads and my shoulders! Quickfeet, power squats, suicide drills, down ski; basketball drills, down to the floor and jump/shoot, four-pushups-run-5-6-7-8-up/down, plank-R/L, plank-up/back...for 25 mins or so? I lost track of time to be honest. 30 sec water breaks every couple of minutes. My arms were shaking so bad they could barely hold me up.

I DO anticipate being sore tomorrow.

I finished. I didnt puke. Did I go non-stop? Of course not. I didnt really expect too on the first real day of doing the program.

I realized not too long ago that I have not had a coke all day. Of course, we dont have any, but I've gotten B a couple today and none for me. I also havent smoked a cigarette all day. But thats not terribly unusual for Sundays for some reason. Eating today has been a whole nother story! HORRIBLE! I blame it on Easter Sunday candy, and a strong craving for Starburst Jelly Beans. And chocolate. And my mom who brought over more.

Here's to eating better tomorrow. And "Cardio Power & Resistance"
